Matrimonial Services

Here at SUN Lawyers LLP, we offer services at various stages of a marital relationship, from pre-marriage financial safeguards to post-divorce variation applications if necessary. We also aim to provide the most effective and costs-efficient way to handle divorce, as we believe it is vital to preserve the matrimonial pot for the coming future. In these difficult times, we strive to help our clients in moving on with their lives, no matter how unfortunate the circumstances may be.

Pre-Wedding Services
There is now a plethora of literature on the concept and enforceability of a pre-nuptial agreement in Hong Kong. To put things in simple terms, it is misconceived that a pre-nuptial agreement is not enforceable in Hong Kong. However, factors which the Court will consider to ensure its enforceability have evolved over the last decade and it is advisable that engaged couples seek legal representation before proceeding with any forms of pre-nuptial arrangements.

On a happier note, we also offer civil celebrant services as our Mr. Stanley Chan has been presided over weddings for over a decade. Our Mr. Franky Fung is also a civil celebrant.

Marital Disputes
In the event the marriage has broken down and divorce appears inevitable, we are also experienced in handling formal divorce procedures in Court. This would be separated into 3 steps:- the main suit, children issues (e.g. custody) and ancillary relief. More information on these topics can be found in our videos and current news.

Post Divorce Services
After a couple has finalized their divorce, it is also important to understand that there may be circumstances which warrants the need to change their financial agreements or children arrangements. Therefore, it is equally important for couples to understand that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to children as their financial needs may differ drastically as they grow older. In such situations, it would be best if couples can agree to any variation themselves. However, if a solution cannot be reached amicably, the Court will be guided by the best interest of the child (if applicable) or the fairest outcome for the divorced couple.
